Hershey Trip a Go! Informational meeting scheduled for Sept. 23rd.

The school committee recently approved the planned GHS Music trip to Hershey PA, therefore we are set to move forward.
The first step will be an informational meeting on Wednesday, September 23rd. 7pm. in the GHS Auditorium. Doug Bennett from Bennett Student Travel, Inc. will be at the meeting to answer questions related to the trip. Ceil Thurber our school nurse will always be at the meeting to discuss any medical related concerns about the trip.
It is our goal that all GHS Music students participate in what hopes to be a memorable experience in the Spring.

I am attaching the proposal that was approved by the school committee. You will be able to get a good sense of the trip as the itinerary is included along with some projected pricing.

Auditioning for Central Districts

The process for auditioning for Central Districts is a great way to grow as a musician. The music is challenging and the auditions can be nerve-wracking but all I can say is sometimes you have to push yourself to get where you're going. I encourage everyone to give it a try.

Please let me know if you are interested in auditioning for Districts. The auditions are on November 14th (right here in Grafton) and we send in our audition lists at the end of September. The audition fee is $7 (so you'll have to skip a day of Dunkin Donuts...) and is due upon sign-ups.

You can see the audition lists, scales and audition forms on our music resources page. I will also be posting the audition pieces in the coming week or so. If you want to take get your hands on the music more quickly, please see me.

Welcome Back!

Time to face the music. The 2015-2016 school year will be off and running for all students at GHS on Tuesday Sept. 1st. The 9th graders have their sneak-peek on Monday the 30th. The most important thing for you to know right now is simple. Be prepared. Be prepared to play music. How can you be prepared?
  • Have your instrument on Tuesday 9/1
  • Have your iPad charged and ready to go
  • Have your accessories on the ready (ie. reeds, valve oil, neck straps, etc.)
  • Review our website
    • Check the calendar
    • Find your music
    • Search through the resources tab
  • Get involved with GHS PEP!
You will find some of these things on the calendar, but I wanted to draw your attention to some firsts:
  • First GHS PEP! game is on Friday September 11th 7pm
  • First performance for the Concert Band is the Costume Concert Wednesday October 28th 7pm
  • GHS PEP! rehearsals will be on Tues. and Thurs. 2-3pm. First rehearsal for GHS PEP! will be on Tuesday Sept. 1st.
  • GHS will again host the CDMMEA Central District auditions on Saturday November 14th
You will receive more information as the school year gets underway. Please check in with our website on a regular basis or follow the site through your email. Most information from this site will be posted to Twitter @graftonBand.

If any student is interested in doubling on another instrument (we are specifically looking for Tuba, F Horn, Bassoon, Baritone Horn, Trombone) please let me know.

Have a Great Summer Break!

The summer break is almost upon us. I hope you have a fantastic time with friends and family throughout. Please make time to have fun with music throughout the summer as well. There are numerous resources and musical selections available to you right here on our website. You can preview some of the music we will be performing next school year, rock out with some of our over 60 GHS PEP! selections, or check out musical resources to start preparing for central districts, etc.
The 2015-2016 GHS Music Calendar is up and running and many of our dates are already booked.
First up is GHS PEP! Summer Fun Musicfest Spectacular (working title...) in August.

It is important that if your instrument needs any repairs or cleaning, the summer is the perfect time to get it done. Please don't start the 2015-2016 with an instrument in disrepair.

I will be keeping you up-to-date on the plans for Hershey/ Broadway (May 2016) on this blog so stay tuned!

We have so many opportunities to make great music next school year. Let's turn these opportunities into great memories!

Be Safe,

Mr. Trombley
